Heyhey, it's Rocky Road here once again :)
Last weekend was the Fifth Annual Borneo Global Issues Conference and man was it a BLAST! Actually, won't regret nearly backing out; because I was "over-stressed" with the Music Theory Exam on Saturday and my Sunday Classes. I would like to specially thank Ms. Wong for convincing me to "not" back out from BGIC! I've interacted with delegates from other countries - well most were from Brunei (
shocking I know), a few from Bangkok and just one from KK.
What I am about to blog about is an over view of BGIC...
Day 1: Friday 2nd March 2007 -
Today was lobbying day at ISB. It ran from about 2pm to 8pm. First everyone gathered to the school hall where tables were set up. We had some speeches from our Secretary Generals and Ms. Wong. After that, we broke up into our committee's; I was in Human Rights - Forum 1. My chairs were Rafidah and Diana, both from Brunei. During lobbying, I co-sponsored two resolutions - didn't write one myself because I won't even be there when they are debated. LOL. so I practically spent the whole afternoon putting my feet up while others go all stressy about their resolutions. Actually I was just joking - I did not put my feet up, but rather "shared" lame jokes with the people in my table. Sing Yee, Janrius, Arthur, *ahem* Diana & I threw lame jokes at each other and just practically talk about anything. Shrey (aka Shrek) came to join us for a while and then went off. After all the hassels that the "OTHER" people had, everyone gathered back into the hall for a special, catered dinner. After the dinner people started heading home - but not for me; I had to go straight to my choir practise and man, WHAT A DAY!

Day 2: Saturday 3rd March 2007 -
Today was the opening ceremony of BGIC V, 2007 at the International Convention Centre. It's Saturday and man do we have to get up early for this. Anyway today was pretty boring seeing as most of the guest speakers did REALLY long speechs -_-" I actually ALMOST fell asleep during one of the speeches and I just couldn't wait to get on debating. On that day I totally forgot to bring my opening speech - YIKES. I went on mental and started asking everyone when we had to do our opening speeches. Lucky it was only to be read after lunch. And too bad after lunch is when i leave to go home and prepare for my Music Theory Exam :S. I don't exactly have any pictures today - well I do have some, but it's of the opening ceremony and i don't think I am allowed to post pictures of Professor David Bellamy, Professor Wangari Maathai and Princess Sarah - so I'll skip pictures for this day.
Day 3: Sunday 4th March 2007 -
First off - HAPPY 11TH BIRTHDAY to my sister Alyssa!! :D Shucks man; I actually missed her birthday party - sad, but anyway.
Today was the thrid day of BGIC - since I missed the debates yesterday, there was nothing to fret because the debates were continued on today because most didn't get to be debated yesterday. Many people questioned my absence yesterday - and YES, I was lucky enough that I didn't get to do my opening speech. One mentioned that he thought Greece (my country) was at war and that I went to fight and died - *ahem* tagalag itong Kuya Arif, HAHA. All in all, today was good - except for the little "fit" that I got into with the delegate of Iraq, man I just dislike her attitude. I was actually supposed to leave after lunch again to go to Sunday Classes, but instead I stayed at BGIC - I hope Aubry isn't too mad about me skipping Sunday Classes. Well my mom said that it was okay to skip it because BGIC is only once a year and Sunday Classes are every Sunday - but still, I feel a bit guilty because skipping Sunday Classes is also cutting God short :S.

Day 4: Monday 5th March 2007 -
Today was the very last day of BGIC - man will I miss everyone so much! Well, today was the GA where all the forum 1's get together and debate the resolutions that were able to pass during committee debate. You know what the funny thing is though? I have no idea what happens to the resolutions when they pass the GA. Is it thrown away in the bin and forgotten about? Or do they actually take the resolutions and produce them in real life? Well okay - I didn't speak much in the GA - okay okay! I didn't speak at all in the GA except when they were doing roll calls, I just said "present and voting," LOL. All in all, today was fun - and I was pretty much feeling down that the Conference ended quite early - 4:30pm. But oh well, will look forward to teh after party!!

Day 4: (continued)
7:00pm the BGIC after party began. We had dinner from about 7 - 8:30pm; obviously I didn't spend that long eating, it's just that no one was to leave the buffet area until 8:30pm which was a real bummer, although it gave us the opportunity to get crazy with the camera :D. When 8:30pm arrived, the doors to the ballroom opened and all delegates went in. First was a dance performance by Nick and Martine and man how i loved the way they danced - like REAL PROS! I betcha that every girl fell madly in love with Nick and vice versa for Martine XD. THen there was this singing performance by Joenah, she sang "Irriplaceable." T'was cool and she had the crowd going wild too XD. Then followed by other performances and awarding of certificates to delegates and teachers. I can't remember he order, so yeah. Practically we only had about an hour to party on the dance floor. At first I was like REALLY passive and didn't want to dance at all. Then finally I went on the dance floor with Val and Kimmy and we partied like drunk fools! It was AWESOME! XD. We danced on the sides of the dance floor because it was really hard trying to squeeze in - no doubt about that. Whn Val left, Kim and I partied on, we tried squeezing into the middle - which was successful, however we were driven out because we got rained on by the delegate of Israel's sweat! EWWW-ness. No, I'm being serious. The night ended at around 11pm and it was time to say our good-byes to the friends that we met over the past 4 days. It was sad to see them go - and I'm looking forward to next year's BGIC :D.
